What is a Septic Drain Field?
Septic drain fields, also known as leach drains or leach fields are used to filter the discharge or sewage from the septic system. Drain fields are designed in variety of sizes to accommodate the capacity of the septic tank system. They may be designed with a single disposal area or they can have several separate areas for disposal of effluent.
Over the course of time, drain fields may fail from being constantly saturated if too much wastewater keeps being flushed through them. If this excess of water constantly sits on the lines, then a slimy mat of bacteria forms along the trenches. Water cannot pass through the bacterial mat, therefore the drain field can no longer handle the effluent.
